Wednesday, July 29th I 7pm
Tisha B’Av is considered a communal day of mourning. As Reform Jews, we acknowledge what is broken with a yearning for, and a commitment to, wholeness for our peoples and our communities.
CEHV is observing Tisha B’Av 5780 by taking an honest look inward as to how we as Jews, particularly those of us who are white Jews, become aware of our own biases and the inherent racism that exists in our Jewish communities.
On Wednesday evening July 29th at 7:00 PM, our community will come together virtually for the observance of Tisha B’Av. We will listen, with open hearts and minds, to recorded testimonials of Black Jewish individuals who speak about their experiences of identity, connection, and struggle. Between their narratives, liturgical passages of Lamentations will be recited. The evening will conclude with a closing discussion led by a trained facilitator.
Tuesday, August 4th I 7pm
On Tuesday evening August 4th at 7:00 PM, our congregation will come together virtually for the celebration of Tu B’Av- an evening of אהבה (love) and sharing.
Community members are invited to prepare a brief story of love: love for/with a partner, person, place, passion, or pet. We warmly welcome any/all creative expressions of love.
We hope that by sharing our stories we will further joy in the world and deepen our appreciation for, and connection with, one another.
Shares will be limited to 2 minutes to ensure all can be heard.
