Senior Rabbi

Our spiritual leader, Rabbi Yael Romer, is passionately dedicated to creating a warm, vibrant, and inclusive Jewish community. Rabbi Yael's dedication to Jewish worship, scholarship, ethical living, education, activism, and Tikkun O'lum lights and inspires our community. Rabbi Yael holds degrees from Brandeis University, New York University, and a Doctorate of Divinity degree from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR). In addition, she trained as a spiritual director in the Bekhol Levavkha Spiritual Direction Program at HUC-JIR. She was also the third female congregational rabbi in Israel.

During her tenure here, Rabbi Yael has reshaped a small Hudson Valley community with innovative initiatives, including outdoor services, weekly meditations, a highly active adult education program, sunrise Shavuot, and her enormously popular confirmation class. Rabbi Yael is also highly engaged in Hudson Valley Jewish community and is dedicated to her work with her colleagues in the Interfaith leadership community.

Visiting Cantorial Soloist

Alexandra is an accomplished, versatile soprano soloist whose previous experience has included operatic and choral work as well as sacred music. Alex looks forward to returning home to Congregation Emanuel of the Hudson Valley and sharing her gifts while strengthening her roots in Judaism. Alexandra holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor of Arts in Music, cum laude, from SUNY at Oneonta. Other education includes the Bel Canto Institute, in Florence, Italy and Crittenden Opera Studio in Boston, MA.

Cantor Bob is steeped in Pete Seeger's belief that everyone can sing. He integrates that into services notable for their warmth, joy, and participation. His own extraordinary journey has led him from the New World Singers in the village to cantorial work at Congregation Emanuel of the Hudson Valley. Cantor Bob is also very active in the broad interfaith community in Kingston.
