Religious School has started

Registration is still being accepted for new students and parents of returning students are encouraged to submit their registration forms. Pre-K through second grade meets from 9:30 to 11 am and daycare is available from 11 am to 12:30 pm. Class time for grades three (3) through 8 is from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. Confirmation classes meet at various times throughout the year.

Samara Gilman, our Religious School Director, is very excited about this year’s classes. The theme is “Be A Mitzvah Hero” and school shirts and activities will focus on this topic. Samara highlighted a number of curriculum changes will take place including assigning specific prayers that each grade level is responsible for learning; retooling the grade 8 programs to include more electives and new lesson plans for the teachers. A number of these additional Jewish programs being planned for the students include music, art, cooking, Israeli dancing, games and Tikkun Olam (charity projects). The classroom layout will be different emphasizing better teacher-student communication and parents will receive a “Parent Recap Newsletter” on Sundays sharing what took place the previous day in school.

Samara’s is happy with her returning faculty members Celeste Widom, Cindy Binnie, Rose Ostrander and Mark Grunblatt and her new instructors, Cara Levine and junior teachers Sophie Levy and Sasha Fraser.

Samara emphasized that our religious school offers wonderful preparation for being a Bar/Bat Mitzvah. “Even if a child has not participated every year in school, learning Hebrew and receiving Mitzvah training is still possible. Each child is taught at his or her level with individual attention,” Samara said.

Parents are encouraged to contact Samara to learn more about the religious school, including how to become involved in classes and how to contribute to the success of the program. She may be reached by calling the Synagogue at 845-338-4271, extension 110 or by email at TempleEmanuelRSD@gmail.com. Religious School classes meet on Saturdays from September through June.
