THE BOOK OF Esther
A Virtual Exhibit
Although we cannot gather around our beloved Megillot Esther (Book of Esther) this Purim, we invite all to spend time with our treasured scroll in this virtual exhibit.
Our beautiful illuminated Megillot Esther was commissioned by Martin B. Miller and Sara Swan Miller z"l in loving memory of their beloved children, Polly z”l Miller and Jaik z”l Miller. Soferet Julie Seltzer was our scribe and Soferet Yonah Lavery-Yisraeli provided the unique illuminations. The stunning drawings feature a cast of animals, ensuring that each child, regardless of race or ethnicity, can envision themself in the story.
On March 3, 2019, Soferet Seltzer spoke to our religious school students and congregants across the lifespan about our megillah and the sacred work of scribing. Soferet Seltzer then presented our Megillah to the congregation and each youth helped scribe the final 49 letters.
Both Soferet Seltzer and Soferet Lavery-Yisraeli are members of Stam Scribes, a collective of progressive scribes from across the globe, whose pioneering work has gender-integrated the field of Jewish scribing.
