JLA Director

Briggin Scharf (they/she) is thrilled to be joining CEHV’s leadership team as the new JLA Director! Over the past fifteen years, Briggin has led outdoor, arts and social justice education programs for youth and families, and is excited to weave these dynamic experiences into JLA’s vibrant curriculum and warm culture.

Briggin is passionate about  place-based Judaism: a pedagogy that connects young people to themselves, their surroundings and their Jewish identity through nature exploration, singing, play, creative art making and storytelling, and community relationship building. In addition to Jewish education, Briggin is a budding song/prayer leader, Judaica artist and ritualist, forest bather, and composting enthusiast.

Briggin lives along the Mahicannituck Watershed on unceded Mohican & Lenape land (currently in the Hudson River Valley), and is the third-generation in their family to call this ecosystem home. Their lineages are a mingling of Ashkenazi, Russian, Hungarian and Italian. Briggin graduated from Oberlin College (2012) with a BA in Art History. See their artwork and offerings at www.briggin.com
